Ressence TYPE 10 DN: The Oil-Filled Watch with an In-House Movement
Ressence’s TYPE 10 DN (Dark Night) marks a milestone: the brand’s first oil-filled watch powered by its own RW-04 movement. Limited to 100 pieces, the new model brings together the distinctive Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS) display and a calibre developed specifically for the TYPE 10.
Why the movement matters
The self-winding RW-04 has 252 components and a stated 60-hour power reserve. Ressence says the watch as a whole comprises 538 components. These figures matter because the movement and display have to work together: an oil-filled upper display gives the watch its unusually legible, seemingly screen-like appearance while its mechanical drive remains a demanding engineering challenge.
More than a dark colourway
Despite the Dark Night name, the significance is not simply a change in colour. Developing a dedicated movement for this architecture demonstrates an attempt to integrate the watch’s mechanics and visual language more closely. The 100-piece limitation also positions this as a specialised collector release, rather than a general-purpose watch.
What collectors should consider
For a collector, the main questions are how the ROCS display behaves in daily use, long-term service arrangements for the oil-filled system, and availability. These are best confirmed with Ressence directly; we do not infer service costs or performance from the launch announcement.
